Announcing plans for National Demonstration on 11 October, campaigners say water is a human right and charges must be reversed

A press conference held today (Thursday 2 October) by the Right2Water citizens’ campaign heard details of a national demonstration planned for Saturday October 11th.

The core message of the Right2Water campaign is that water is a fundamental human need and a basic human right, and the campaign is seeking the reversal of domestic water charges.

The demonstration will assemble at 2 pm at the Garden of Remembrance, and will proceed from there down D’Olier Street and back up Westmoreland Street, finishing at the GPO.

Participants are being asked to wear blue.

Details of an online petition against the charges were also announced:  the petition can be accessed at www.right2water.ie.

Right2Water is a citizens’ campaign supported by trade unions Unite, Mandate, the CPSU and OPATSI, as well as by Sinn Fein, People Before Profit, the Anti Austerity Alliance and the Workers’ Party. The campaign is also supported by a range of community groups and individual activists.
